"REVOLUTION" AIFD Symposium in Boston

4th of July in Boston! Very sick, the fireworks, the history, and the looobbsstteerr. mmmmmm. Amongst all this was a lot of nervousness. I was sent to Boston to represent the College of Southern Nevada and compete in the Student Design Competition. We get to the mandatory orientation meeting the night before.. Here I am expecting to be told what flowers we will be using getting a lil info.
Nope! I leave the meeting even more nervous then when I went in.. The next morning we wake up feelin ready to go, eat a muffin and say bye to our advisors and get down to business. For the next 4 hours were in a cold room full of eager students ready to do work son. We had 4 categories, each an hour long, with each having there own specifications. First up was Buffet Piece, which had the specifications of 15" by 15" and 36" tall... Next up was the bouquet. This one I had already had a plan for, but my goal was to make it more elaborate.. Then it was the Sweetheart table piece that I kinda bombed, I had issues trying to cover a lomey dish with Aspidistra leaves and bailed last minute and came up with what I did.. boo, but whatever. Last but not least, Napkin Decor dun dun dun.. I had my idea, I practiced before and knew exactly what I was gonna do, I came prepared.. so I did my thing and that was that. Now lets Fast forward 2 days of nervousness anticipation..
AWARDS NIGHT, we got all dressed up and looking our best. walked into this Grand Ballroom, decorated in a 60's flower power theme, we walked through a door with hanging daisys, our tables had cute flower arrangement, candy, our 4 course menu, everything was really groovy baby.. Awards were given and unfortunately my name wasn't called, but my 2 other classmates did, Roni was the first one called up and she won 3rd place Buffet piece, and Lydnsay got 1st place Sweetheart table piece. Yay them.. we sat down and they gave us our packets with our other awards we won and ends up I got Seventh place napkin decor and 8th place peoples choice... we also got our score sheets. 4 judges judged each of our pieces and the best score was 50 out of 50. For my napkin decor I received a 50, 50, 48, and then a 37 lol. damn that 4th judge! I was really thinking that if I was gonna place its gonna be for my napkin decor. So to see the score sheets was like uggh.. BUT its alright cuz now I know what to look for, for next year. It's like the whole year will be practice for symposium next year in SAN FRANCISCO!

Ikebana Exhibition!

What a fabulous day! Our Ikebana class did an Exhibit in the C building of our college campus. We were split up into teams of two for our group project. My partner was none other than Chieko, our teacher. So basically I got to design it how I wanted and asked her for guidance in any areas I needed it in, we got to use whatever flowers we wanted.
We also had to do our final projects which we had to purchase our own flowers. I stumbled across some varigated lily grass, then some white iris and everything else seemed to fall into place.
Hope you enjoy :)

This was my other design concept I came up with

Hello Blogging World

Hello! Not sure how to start, but here goes. Today was our Annual Spring Bazaar for the SAIFD chapter at CSN. My first. I just became a member in February. I'm super excited because I just see it as an awesome way to network with Key players in the floral industry here in Nevada. Someone is at the Bellagio, another at Caeser's Palace, MGM Mirage Events, It just seems like a good stepping stone to my future.

We're fund raising for the AIFD Floral Symposium, who will be holding like a huge floral convention with a student competition! So even though I've been working with flowers for less than a year.. IM GONNA TRY! I'm so excited. It's in July, so I have some time to prepare. The bazaar was a success in my eyes, the state of the economy considering. Mayumi, another member of the club, and I made fresh flower arrangement the whole day and had people buying them from us as we were making them. It was pretty awesome. I love seeing people appreciate my "floral art".

Here are some of the arrangements I made to sell :)

All in all a success, tata for now :)
